I get my name from my the way my leaves are patterned. My foliage is bright green with darker green patches on either side of the central vein, like a rabbit's paw. The leaf undersides are a uniform silvery green.
Useful to know:
I am from the Brazilian Rainforest.
I won't get much taller than 30cm and won't grow too quickly.
I grow best in bright light, but will tolerate shade. Keep me away from direct sunlight.
Keep my soil moist at all times, but do not over-water me or allow me to sit in soggy conditions. Soft, lukewarm water is recommended.
I like to be kept warm but can cope with about 15°C for short periods.
Apply a balanced fertiliser once or twice a month during the growing season.
Brown leaf tips are a tell-tale sign that the surrounding air is too dry. Snip these off to keep it from spreading and conider placing me in a different environment.
If you think your environment is too dry, pop me on top of a damp pebble tray to increase the humidity around me.
Good news: I am pet-safe! A similar pet friendly plant is White Rabbits Foot Fern.
Often referred to as Prayer Plants, along with their closely related cousins Calathea, Maranta leaves have the unusual characteristic of lying flat during the day and then closing upwards at night as if in prayer.
